<SPAN CLASS="lt"><PRE ID="original">These locations are published by the County of Westchester for the benefit of those seeking relief from dangerous heat and humidity during the summer months.  Heat stress can occur when temperatures exceed 90 degrees, and high humidity can increase the danger for heat stress, especially among the elderly, small children and those with chronic health problems. To help residents cope with the heat, the Westchester County Department of Health offers a "Stay Cool" information line, (914) 813-5620, which provides tips on how to stay cool in the heat and places in the community where residents can go to avoid the heat. 

The County wants its residents to take protective action to avoid heat stress, and to know how to recognize signs of heat stress. The Health Department recommends residents spend as much time as possible during hot weather in comfortable surroundings, and if necessary encourages them to seek relief in a nearby air-conditioned mall, senior citizen center, library or movie theatre.  This shapefile contains a point for sixty (60) such locations, with street address and other contact information.
