In 2006, Westchester County GIS entered into a partnership with the
Green Map
System.
Green Maps are locally created maps that chart the natural and cultural environment and highlight “green” living resources. Westchester’s project is a perfect complement to County Executive Andy Spano's
Global
Warming Task Force
which is developing a countywide action plan to reduce
greenhouse gas emissions and promote sustainable development
throughout the county.
The interactive
Green Map
highlights dozens of sustainable green projects and programs throughout the county and encourages residents to identify similar efforts in their neighborhoods and communities. You
can click on different categories reflected in the map to
see what others are doing to be more energy efficient and
what steps you can take to have less of an impact on the environment. There is also information on where you can go
to see natural beauty (gardens, parks, trailways, etc.) and
how you can take advantage of more fuel-efficient travel alternatives.
