Type: Feature Layer

Geometry Type: esriGeometryPolygon

Description: The dataset consists of aquifer polygons or regions depicting unconsolidated aquifers in New York State, excluding Long Island. Aquifers are separated by and include attributes for potential yield ranges and confinement indicator. Edition 2.0 of this data includes 38 aquifer polygons missing from edition 1.0 The data are those in upstate NY that consist of sand and gravel and yield large supplies of water to wells. Bedrock aquifers, although significant in some areas, are not addressed here. Source data is 1:250,000, same scale as the NYS Geological Survey surficial and bedrock geology maps on which they were based. Together these maps form a consistent set of geologic and groundwater maps for use in regional management of the groundwater resources of the State. Aquifers are separated by and include attributes for potential yield ranges and confinement indicator. Edition 2.0 of this data includes 38 aquifer polygons missing from edition 1.0 The data is from 2008, which is the latest available update from the <a target="_blank" href="http://gis.ny.gov/gisdata/inventories/details.cfm?DSID=1141"> New York State GIS Clearinghouse</a>
